How we approach an extension

Extending usually beats moving. You stay in the street you chose, and the money goes into the part of the house you actually use. What you need is a builder who can join new work to old without it looking like an afterthought.

Tom Robilliard manages every project with regular site meetings and clear progress updates. At handover, you’ll receive a detailed walkthrough and a customised home manual, followed by 12 months of maintenance support to ensure everything performs as it should. You get Tom as your direct contact, regular site meetings, monthly progress reports and 24/7 Wunderbuild access to photos, costs and selections.

Anyone can add a room. The work that separates a good extension from an obvious one is where it meets the existing house. Roof lines. Floor levels. Ceiling heights. Whether the new windows read as part of the same building. We plan those details with your designer before construction rather than resolving them on site with the frame already up.

Extensions also carry more engineering and more council involvement than most owners expect. A second storey means the existing footings and frame need assessing. Coastal sites bring wind loading. Setbacks, height limits and overlays shape what you are allowed to build at all. We bring engineers and your design team in early so the plans you commit to are plans that can be approved and built.

Before you sign, you get concept plans and a cost estimate, then finalised plans, a detailed quote and a construction schedule with milestones. We will be honest about approval timeframes rather than quoting the version everyone hopes for.

The whole job, from feasibility through to handover.

What to Expect

Three objections that stop people enquiring, named plainly, with how we handle each one.

1. Living on site while we build

Most clients stay in the home for at least part of an extension. We stage the works, keep the site secure and clean at the end of each day, and tell you at the site meeting which weeks will be disruptive so you can plan around them.

2. Council approval holding up the job

Approvals are the least predictable part of an extension, and timeframes quoted early are often optimistic. We tell you what is realistic for your council and your site, lodge early, and keep the design and pre-construction work moving while the application sits.

3. New work that does not match the existing house

Roof lines, floor levels, ceiling heights and window proportions decide whether an extension looks original or added on. We resolve those details with your designer before the frame goes up, and our carpenters build the junctions where the two meet.
